The Origin

A freelance business that needed to look like an agency.

Gaussian Design started as a way to formalize the freelance work I was already doing. I put the brand together with a few collaborators, and we wanted a vehicle for fielding RFPs for design, web development, and creative production work. The portfolio content is primarily my own projects, but the brand needed to position us as a team capable of handling professional client engagements.

The name references the Gaussian blur, one of the most fundamental concepts in imaging and visual processing. It felt right for a design-focused brand. Technical enough to signal capability, creative enough to feel approachable. The brand had to feel premium, grounded, and confident without being cold.

Why build from scratch

I could have used a template. Most agencies do for their first site. But the site itself was the first proof of what we could deliver. If the agency's own web presence looked generic, there was no reason for a potential client to believe we'd do anything different for them. Every design decision, every interaction, every layout was a demonstration of the work we were selling.

Gaussian Design homepage with interactive Canvas sphere animation

The homepage hero features a real-time Canvas API sphere animation that responds to the active content slide. The visual is rendered entirely in JavaScript with no external libraries.

The Brand

A logo built from a distribution curve.

I designed the logo myself. The mark is derived from the Gaussian distribution curve, abstracted into a clean geometric form that works at any size, from a favicon to a billboard. It's simple enough to be instantly recognizable but carries enough conceptual weight to anchor the brand.

Typography and color

The typography pairs a refined serif for headings with a clean sans-serif for body text. The hierarchy is deliberate. Headlines feel editorial and authoritative. Body copy feels approachable and readable. The color system is built around dark backgrounds with high-contrast photography and selective accent colors. The dark palette gives the work room to breathe and positions the brand as premium without relying on the typical luxury cues.

Visual direction

The overall tone is confident, tasteful, and understated. No gradients, no neon accents, no visual noise. The photography categories span landscape, wildlife, architectural, travel, and portrait work, all organized in clean gallery layouts that let the images do the talking. Every page follows the same visual language: generous whitespace, strong typographic hierarchy, and intentional pacing.

Gaussian Design about section with animated typography

The about section uses staggered type weights and sizes to create visual rhythm. The copy balances professional credibility with approachable language.

The Website

Five service verticals and an AI voice agent.

The site is structured around four core service areas: Web Development, Marketing, Visual Design, AI Automation, and Creative Consulting. Each vertical has its own positioning and description, but they all connect back to the same brand promise: taking a client's vision and making it real across whatever medium fits best.

The interactive hero

The homepage hero features a Canvas-based 3D sphere animation that renders in real time. It's not a video loop or a pre-rendered asset. It's a JavaScript animation running on the Canvas API, responding to the active content slide as users navigate through the agency's service offerings. The sphere adds a layer of technical sophistication that signals capability without overwhelming the content. It's the kind of detail that makes a developer pause and look closer.

AI voice chat integration

I integrated an ElevenLabs voice chat agent into the site. It's a conversational AI that can answer questions about the brand, our services, and our process. It's not a custom-built system. It's an integration of ElevenLabs' conversational AI platform, configured with context about Gaussian Design. The "Chat with AI" button in the bottom right corner opens the voice interface. It's a practical touch that demonstrates the kind of AI integration we offer as a service while also serving as a functional tool for visitors who want quick answers.

Multi-page architecture

The site includes a full page set: homepage with animated hero and service previews, a dedicated services page with detailed descriptions, a work/portfolio page, an about page with team information and FAQ, and a contact page with a booking flow. The "Book a Call" CTA appears consistently across pages, keeping the conversion path visible without being aggressive.

Gaussian Design services section showing portfolio mockups

The services section lists five verticals with portfolio mockups showing real project work. The dark background with device frames creates depth and showcases the UI work at scale.
